Awesome Art Journal Summer School Guest Teachers Line Up 2018
I am Marieke Blokland, founder and creator of BloknoteAcademy and Art Journal Summer School. Art journaling is one of my biggest passions. In my art journals I love to play with art supplies and express myself visually. My quirky work is often graphical and illustrative. Sometimes raw, sometimes cute and often a little edgy.
An art geek is what I call myself, as I am very fond of modern art and design, trying to absorb as much art as I possibly can. I currently love the art from Picasso, Francis Bacon and Grayson Perry a lot. But I can also feel really inspired by watching a Tim Burton movie, old Japanese woodblock prints, African masks, folk art and street art.
I have multiple books books published in the Netherlands: Art Journal School, Handlettering & doodles and Art Journaling & Mixed Media.
Andrea Gomoll is a Mixed Media Artist from Berlin / Germany, where she lives with her Husband Thomas and 3 crazy Cats. She studied Media Design in Berlin and in 2009 she took the leap and turned her Passion for Design and Art into a Business – and is working fulltime as an Artist, Art Instructor, Designer & Wedding Photographer ever since. “It was one of the best decisions I ever made – following my dream!”
“I love Art journaling, Mixed Media Art & Painting in a whimsical Style. Being creative with Paints, Inks, Pens, Markers etc. is essential for me – it helps through the rough days and makes the good days even better. Art can help you in so many ways – it has a positive impact on your life – and I love to inspire and enable others to play, have fun creating and to discover the artist within, just waiting to be nurtured.
Especially during the lazy Days of Summer I absolutely enjoy creating in my Art Journal – just for the pure fun of it – completely allowing myself to fall into the creative process … so I’m really excited to be Part of Art Journal Summer School again this year … let’s create some magical Summer-Art together!
I am a mixed-media artist and teacher. I love everything about art: creating it, thinking about it, looking at it, and teaching it. I teach both in-person and online workshops. I have been scrapbooking since 1995, stamping since 1996, and art journaling since 2004. I have kept a personal journal since I was nine years old. I believe in writing yourself down, expressing yourself, and making your mark on the world.
As a Ranger Signature Designer, I design a line of mixed-media art supplies that includes acrylic paints, mediums, brushes, rubber stamps, stencils, and more. Look for the Dina Wakley Media Line by Ranger at a store near you.
My two books Art Journal Freedom and Art Journal Courage are available now.
I’m Ilse Kleijer, 31 years old, creative and mother of 2 wonderful boys. I’ve been creative since childhood. At my parents’ home, my sister and I did a little bit of trying to find out what hobby area was hip at the time and I drew a lot.
I graduated as a graphic designer at the Lyceum in Zwolle and worked at various advertising agencies. In 2012 I started working for myself, I immersed myself in photography and made a number of wedding and family reports, 2 years ago I discovered that watercolor is really my passion. And I came up with a name that suited me better than ilsekleijer and combined my initials (IK) with love.
My name is Iris, I am a London-based mixed media artist. I live in the heart of Bloomsbury with my beautiful family (husband, 2 boys & 1 cat).
I am passionate about mixed media art, art journaling and inspiring people to follow their inner creativity.
You can often find me at my art desk pursuing my many arty interests like art journaling, abstract painting, playing with art supplies and making mini journals.
Currently my favourite art supplies are: fluorescent pink everything, gold, lime green, off white & teal paint, black ink, Daniel Smith watercolours in Lunar Black, a brayer and Stabilo All pencil.
Hi there! My name is Mariëlle Stolp. I live in the Netherlands with my daughters, my amazingly supportive husband and two naughty cats that are always trying to steal my supplies and ruin my attempts at filming tutorials. If weather permits I love to take a walk on the nearby beach and collect seashells with my youngest. And if not, I am more than happy to stay in and fill my journals with dreamy, boho-style or fairy-tale girls.
I have three beautiful and bright daughters, so cute, giggly and sweet inspiration is always around. I love to share that with you!
Marlene Meijer-van Niekerk
Hallo all you creatives! I’m Marlene Meijer-van Niekerk. I was born in sunny South Africa, and I currently live in a small coastal town in The Netherlands. I’ve been making art, in some form or another since I was a small child. Whether it was painted pottery, canvas painting, graphic design, costume design or even make-up design, the need to express myself artistically has been as natural as breathing. Mixed-Media and Art Journaling are just the latest outlets for my creative energy.
I am a product designer that designs for quite a few Craft Companies. Amongst them The Crafter’s Workshop(stencils), Artfoamies (foam stamps), Grafix (shrink film) and Studio Light, where I have a own Signature Collection of craft/journaling products.
My style is best described as vibrant, colourfull and happy.
I hope as you follow my lesson in AJSS, you’ll find yourself filled with the positive creative energy that I felt as I filmed the lesson in my studio, just for you!
Shhh!!! I have a creative, little secret. I am enamored with the creative process!! Smitten. Bewitched. Transfixed. Painting after painting, I am mesmerized by the artistic excursions that begin with the simple, elemental building blocks we call “marks”. The simple act of making a mark, whether with line, color, or collage, helps shine a light on what captivates our hearts and minds, giving voice to our stories. I just can’t get enough!!
I abstract my subjects from what may seem like an unruly, dissonant mess of marks, color and texture, but, to me, it’s the most fantastic playground of imagination and sight. And for someone like me who never expected to be an artist, these playgrounds are always my ღ wonder works ღ.
My prayer is that the art that comes out of my life will renew your sense of Wonder in the midst of a world that has so many dark places.
I am a self-taught mixed media artist. I was born in Germany and lived most of my adult life in Hamburg before moving to the United States in September 2013.
I worked as a paralegal for seventeen years and might have remained in the “wrong” profession had I not discovered mixed media in 2004.
I regained confidence in my creativity and have spent the last decade exploring the possibilities of creating dimension and texture by layering different materials and paint media. I have worked in art journals and on canvases, incorporating collage and found objects. Since 2006 I have taught workshops in Europe, Canada, the U.S., Australia, Israel, Malaysia and online. I am also teaching Mixed Media Workshops at Pratt Institute SCPS.
By 2011 I was able to give up working as a paralegal to become a full-time artist.
In my workshops I share what I know about tools, supplies and techniques, with the goal of helping each student unlock his/her personal creativity.
My artwork is licensed through StencilGirl Products, RubberMoon, Stampendous and ArtFoamies. My Book Artful Adventures in Mixed Media with North Light Books was released in June 2017.
Kate lives in the north of England UK, in a rural location with her lovely family and various pets. She works part time as a school teacher but also teaches many mixed media and art journaling classes. She has always been creative but discovered mixed media in 2008 and her passion for messy, colourful, expressive art continues to this day. She has regularly written for many art and craft magazines in the UK and also in the USA. She has published several DVDs on the subject of art journaling, and has also been published in various art books. Kate has been involved in various collective on-line classes as well as Art Journal Summer School. She films her own on-line classes details of which can be found in her Etsy shop. A keen stamper, Kate has designed her own range of stamps for Stampotique Originals (USA), and she is also currently on the Design Team for DecoArt Media. Kate also loves mono-printing and films monthly two-part tutorials for Gel Press.
Rae Missigman – maker of marks, mixed media artist, author and instructor is known for her vivid colors, intricate layering and signature repetitive art marks.
As an artist, Rae believes that creativity can be accomplished in bite sized pieces during even the busiest days. She focuses on embedding her distinctive mark on each piece leaving no doubt of it’s creator.
As an instructor, Rae strongly encourages all artists to trust themselves to fearlessly do what they love. She champions a bold voice, continuing education and finding inspiration in the everyday.
As a woman, Rae lives in central FL within a large family of creatives. She now shares her love of all things handmade with a new generation of young makers.
Tori Weyers was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1978. Weyers is a fine artist and designer specializing in illustration, mixed media and abstract painting. She received her BFA from the Art Academy of Cincinnati and has been working as a professional artist and designer since 1998. Her work has been published in Somerset Studio’s Art Journaling Magazine, F&W publication’s How Design Magazine as well as North Light Books 2016 Incite4 The Best of Mixed Media. She has shown her work in many galleries regionally, throughout the Indianapolis area as well as on the West Coast.
Weyers creates and shows work from her home studio in Broad Ripple as well as Gallery 116 in Carmel, IN and Nickel Plate Arts in Noblesville, IN. Her artwork has been collected throughout the United States and the world including, Canada, Australia and the Netherlands. She teaches mixed media, painting and more through in person classes and online workshops.
I’m a designer/illustrator from Greece that is also involved in the craft industry creating fun projects, designing products and teaching classes. I’ve been a creative person since I can remember myself but I only discovered the online craft community a few years ago and it was like finding my tribe. I started with baby steps by sharing my work online and being part of some great design teams but soon I began to search more ways to get involved. I love sharing sprinkles of craftiness and inspiration with the rest of the world. I publish a lot of casual process videos on youtube but I also do more in depth content for my classes. I’m a regular instructor on Big Picture Classes and I occasionally do other independent collaborations. I’m a very versatile artist and I constantly experiment with new ideas and techniques. I believe that every creative “disaster” is a great source of inspiration for our next masterpiece.
